He's the best Cook ever!

"Gotta seize life, do something man, do something that matters. Squeeze the f—k out of every day. Life’s all sewn up, everything’s in its right place, charged, ready." — Cook

He is charismatic, funny and can handle a lot of alcohol. He likes to spend time with his best mates - JJ and Freddie. He's outgoing, kind of slovenly and usually in a good mood. He loves to have a good time and is constantly the life and soul of any party. Cook shows a great interest in the ladies, and all his partying can sometimes get out of hand, leading him into trouble.

He is James Cook, one of the best character from series 3-4. Cook is not going to Cook (Chef), but Cook (rotten). Because Cook is rotten. The most rotten character in Skins ever. And we like it!

Skins Español Version: Brend new or remake?

After the failure of Skins U.S, to plagiarized ideas from the British blockbuster apparently is not over. Now is the turn of Spain, which has plans to build "from scratch" a series based on the ideas and themes of the famous british teen drama. Will at least this "hispanic version" not flop like the U.S one?

Series will be directed by Luìs Santamaria, and scripted by Jaime Vaca, Carlos Ruano and Marìa Lopèz who have also been writers of another spanish teen-drama (look at Physics or Chemistry series)

Meanwhile have been revealed the names of two of the main characters:

Eliah should be the spanish Cook/Chris but the producers keen to point out that the characters will be original and not copied from those of the UK version. Alice, instead, will be a freak new original character. Alice had a neglected childhood because both of her parents were abusive alcoholics. At the first sight she is an agressive person , but deeply is smart and sweet.

Series will debut on MTV Spain this Autumn. Probably before its release will be revealed the names and characteristics of some new characters. Stay tuned!

Jack O' Connell and Nicholas Hoult: thoughts about US version

Have you ever wondering what Skins UK cast would have thought seeing their "stunt" on american version of the show?
Here's Jack O' Connell (Cook) 's views about Skins US remake:
There’s a whole lot of age restrictions. I don’t like generalizing, because it’s a big old place, America. There’s that many more people living there. But I would say that it probably says more about an audience or an American audience as opposed to Skins as an idea, or a project. It’s understandable, you know? If you associate 20, 18, 19 still as kids, not old enough to drink, then you’re going to be surprised when you see them on TV with American accents doing exactly that. I don’t agree with the naïveté, it’s not like it doesn’t exist. You can’t tell me everyone in America doesn’t touch alcohol until the age of 21. You guys are getting crunk. Everybody’s getting totally crunk right now.
Instead, here's the view of Nicholas Hoult (Tony) about Skins U.S
I know a little bit about it and I’ve read about it, I haven’t seen it. I’m not avoiding it, I didn’t actually end up watching quite a lot of the episodes in our series either, and to go back and relive it in America today—it’s a bit too soon. I read some of the reactions of the press in the States, which is maybe something more drastic than the reactions we have here. It’s a tricky one, particularly having not seen the American version. I’m sure it’s quite similar to our version. I think in America people maybe get more involved in things whereas in England if you don’t like it, you don’t watch it. You don’t necessarily have to have such a large reaction to it—but I don’t know, it’s difficult to say exactly why the reaction was more severe for the Americans. It’s probably because advertising networks pay a lot more on MTV than advertisers over here. I’m sure it’s many different things.

Skins UK : Series 6 will have a surpirse!

*You must be 16 or over to take part.*

Company Pictures, Skins production studio, are holding an open casting session on Thursday 14th July, 11am-3pm in Bristol ( The Lanes, 22 Nelson St., BS1 2LE.). Casting serves for a new smart and handsome male character who will be showed on 6th series of the famous UK teen-drama. Keep on staying tuned to check out some other news!

SKINS US: How to corrupt a blockbuster!

SKINS US: How to corrupt a blockbuster!
In an effort to keep the “Skins brand” alive, they’ve copied the UK version’s credit sequence style (flashy images, colours, sexy bits), logo and ad-break bumpers. But the music’s new – it has lyrics alongside tinkly piano. As for the style of the show itself, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s just as gritty and youthful as the original, although there is a saddening lack of proper nudity and the swears are bleeped.

Characters

*Tony: He’s still called Tony and he still is Tony: he's ridiculously charming, uses sex as a weapon and is as cocky as ever. But new star (and amateur boxer) James Newman is more rugged, macho and well, American. Think Nick Hoult’s Tony mixed with last season's Cook if you will. Although his duvet cover's not as good as UK Tony's.

*Michelle: Tony still calls her Nips and she still hates it, but just like in the UK series, she can’t quit him. Although she retains her frisson with Stanley/Sid, the US version is more spunky and a better cat-fighter. Out of all of them, she’s the most similar.

*Stanley / Sid: The loveable nerd becomes a lazy bum in the transition but he's still the hapless virgin who you root for. Less Ron Weasley and more Michael-Cera-as-Scott- Pilgrim in the looks department, he’s still at the command of Tony and desperately in love with Michelle.

Tea / Maxxie: Yikes! They made the gay dancer a lesbian cheerleader? This might be controversial as Maxxie was so well loved, but we reckon that feisty Tea should be given a chance. She’s strong and stands up to Tony, but their complicated relationship might just cause tension later on (now where have we seen that before….?)

*Chris: Full disclosure: we can’t remember if we always loved the UK Chris as much as we do now we know he dies horribly, but we weren’t as enamoured with the Stateside version. Maybe it’s because he’s a bit rougher, more of a skinhead – but we think you’ll see a softer side come out. He’s still in love with his emotionally wonky teacher after all.

Cadie from Skins USA
Cadie / Cassie: From pale and wan Hannah Murray to wild and creepy Britne Oldford, Cadie is just as weird but in a very different way. She makes erotic sculptures – out of vegetables – and she loves knives. She’s still Tony’s choice to pop Stanley’s cherry and still ODs on a trampoline, but she replaces Cassie’s floatiness with a deadpan menace. Barring Maxxie's gender-swap, she's the most changed character.
And fear not, fans of other characters – they’re all still there, we just didn’t get enough of a feel for them to judge. Jal becomes Daisy (and her clarinet becomes a trumpet); Anwar is now Abbud, and he still struggles to balance Islam with partying; and Effy is reincarnated as Eura, who looks a lot like Cassie, but remains as enigmatic and impassive as Kaya Scodelario’s version.

To be honest, if you’ve seen ep one of the UK Skins, you may be a little bored of the opener to the MTV series, but don’t give up too quickly, because from what we’ve seen, there’s lots of humour, emotion and conflict to come in the new episodes. And with Bryan Elsley’s plan to eventually make this a completely new version of Skins, coupled with a very promising new cast, we think this is one to watch!
